Chapter 1

Create a Project and Set Your Tempo

DRUM

When you first open ESSNCE, you land on the DRUM screen with an empty project. Before anything else, set the pace of your track.

The fastest way is tap tempo. Find the TAP button in the transport strip at the top of the DRUM screen and tap it rhythmically — eight taps is enough. ESSNCE averages those taps and sets your BPM.

Not sure what tempo to pick? Nod your head at the speed you want the track to feel. Then tap at that speed. 90 BPM is a slow walk. 140 BPM is a jog. Most hip-hop sits between 80 and 100. Most house is 120–128.

You can also drag the BPM slider directly if you have a specific number in mind.

Done

You have a project running at a tempo you chose. Every screen in the app is now synced to this BPM.
